Supreme Court To Revisit Affirmative Action In University Of Texas Case

I would be willing to bet that somewhere in your affluent sounding place in society, someone busted their back or brain to provide the means to provide. I am also pretty sure that it was not because that person or persons were devoid of hope. I am not saying that all the things children need to catch up are not necessary but I am saying that not addressing the root causes does nothing to stop the illness. The causes have to be addressed. In reading many postings on this site you will be able to pick out those that are confronting this problem from a place of anger toward a people rather than toward a philosophy of life that lets children have children with no respect for the life that is going to happen. The underprivileged portion of the black community is most generally looked at as angry, mistrustful, and hopeless not because of their color but because of a set of societal norms they have adopted. If we are going to help we need to pressure their civic leadership to promote correct ethic patterns that will generate two parent families. The only hope extended, to the youngsters in those communities, are those of sports, or crime unless they are lucky enough to have a strong spiritual foundation.

Cynth, I really appreciate the lesson in how to change things for the underprivileged. The underpinning of my statement that you reacted to is this: Anger toward the white people is not going to cure the situation; the children we are talking about do need to be encouraged and given hope; making people believe they are owed something does not help them achieve anything. In your approach I didn’t notice one constructive solution to the situation facing thousands upon thousands in every major city in our country. (remainder of comment below)

Does America Need an Angry President?

You mention Fox news do you even take the time to listen to the liberal side of that outlet? Do not portend to be objective in your viewpoint. The tactic of attacking your opposistion on a personal level to deflect from the facts of the discussion would make you

the epitomy of your statement, "Your lack of honesty or sight revels you to be either one easily manipulated or inherently dishonest." With one exeption you at least have enough guts to mention your hero in your name tag. By the way how'r things working out in Cuba? Would you like living there?

Couldn't agree with you more Ganden. The best way to do that is to find out what truth supports what. Both sides need to check validity outside their realm of comfortability. It is far to easy to lable those with opposing viewpoints as uneducated loons. There is an element of truth within the worst and the best of lies, and you can't get to the truth by reaching into the snakes mouth.

Nor do I want delusional idealistic irrational disfunctional and I might add dangerous chameleon politics guiding us either. It is impossible to idealize people like Marx and Mao, to hold onto the theology of liberation, and then try to depict a love for our country. You need to read Mr. Obama's own words, study the belief structure of the man you wish for us to follow into the next century.

Does America Need an Angry President?

Mistakes were made in the course of our country’s advance in its place in World History. Those mistakes were generally a result of the same failures that we as individuals make. Fear, hatred and greed caused the genocide of the indigenous people (although not completely) greed and a need for cheap labor brought the sad practice of slavery. It was bad enough that those sicknesses invaded our national soul at that time, but to let those things take away from the healing process is as large a crime.

I truly wonder how the great achievers, of the myriad of American colors, would view the enslavement of dependency based on color. As President color is not even part of the prevalent discourse, policy and leadership are. I personally don't care if our President is puke green I do care if he is proud to be an American, I do care if he is or isn't color blind, I do care if his choices are based in fact not fallacy, I do care if he thinks what is yours is actually mine, I do care if his thinking is tainted by the belief that the Caucasian race and the United States as a country are bad folk just wanting to take advantage of the underprivileged, I do care if our President wants to pit our countrymen one against the other, I do care if he thinks our country will survive by following, and I do care if he thinks kissing the enemies of our country will bring world peace is a defense policy. I do care that under his "leadership" the national debt has almost doubled, I do care that he thinks spending money we don't have is a good thing. Color is simply a color it is not a reason to hate anyone. When you speak about the existence of discrimination you need to honestly look at who is keeping the racial mistrust and anger alive.

The amount of time it takes to turn around the train of society is not a question of time as much as one of method. Fueling the racial distrust held by most of the "black" community can not be considered a healer. Equal status in education will only occur when there is equal or enhanced impetus for the acquisition of knowledge. That equality cannot be achieved at the point of college entrance. The equality of the mind does not start at the end of the high school years, nor does it occur because of color. Mental achievement in the majority of cases is due to the spark of interest in a subject and the desire to excel. Adding another log of what the “black” person is owed, because of the sins of the past only serves to inhibit necessary growth. Achievement of equality is not going to be achieved through the adherence to the anger, the hatred and the feel sorry for me attitudes that so many leaders in the African American community promote. The answer is not in getting even the answer is not in getting a first prize trophy when you place last. the answer is providing real education by paying great teachers, not administrators, a bonus for going into blighted elementary and secondary schools. The underprivileged are not so because of color as much as because they have been taught that their color is a detriment.

Franklin Graham Calls Obama's Religious Beliefs Into Question

The President considers himself a Christian and so he is, as defined by "Black Liberation Theology. Black liberation theology is most likely the most predominant portion of our Presidents current religion. Mr. O’bama has been part of Rev. Jeremiah Wrights flock for the last twenty some years. Rev. Wright gained some slight scrutiny during the Presidents first campaign and those who looked at it critically were quickly labeled racist. The approach to Christianity is somewhat different than the traditional. Traditional Christianity views Christ as The Son of God, one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Traditional Christianity is founded on the belief that Christ’s death, Resurrection and Ascension were all for forgiveness of mans Original Sin and the forgiveness of sin for those who recognized Christ as their personal savior. The premise of Black Liberation theology is that Christ was basically a community organizer and a teacher. Google it.

F&F

It amazes me how difficult it is, for some, to understand the principle of the individual’s role in personal achievement. When did our society change? We are no longer a people united regardless of color but one divided by what is owed because of color. We are no longer a society that rewards achievement deserved by effort but have turned toward the unfair system that says fair is sameness. Sad. Affirmative action has perpetuated the reverse of intention, it has increased dependency rather than support self achievement.

It is exactly this type of horsefeces that has gotten us into this mess. We are one country, we are one society, the desire for a better opportunity for all is not exclusive it is inclusive. Our answers for a better tomorrow exist in a melding of good positive thought and action not in the doctrine of anger and hatred being promoted in today’s discourse. As a conservative independent I fail to see anything in your statement that promotes the re-uniting of our country. The belief that morality and or education is a one against another proposition is a fallacious premise. You do not enhance either because of color. They become enhanced only through the nurturing of attitudes. Please re-examine

Should Pop Stars Be Celebrated With Flags at Half-Staff?

Today marked the end of a tragedy, the final passing of one of Gods true gifts to humanity. A voice that was born and nurtured in the choir of a church in New Jersey, a spirit that touched all that heard her voice or saw her smile. Whitney may have stopped breathing a few short days ago, but she was killed years earlier by one of the great lies of our time. Like Eve, tempted by satan, Whitney was stolen from humanity by a lie, and her joy in life was replaced by that lie. I disagree with the statement regarding why flags fly at half-mast. It should not be reserved only for those in military or in government. Whitney touched the lives of millions of people worldwide as an example on both ends of the continuum, good and bad. She had an ability to touch the human soul, through her voice we were able to imagine the heights to which the human spirit could climb and through her addiction we saw how fragile the human condition truly is. Whitney will be greatly missed but in our lifetime one of Gods brightest lights shown itself so briefly. In her both God and Satan made themselves visible.

a Point about fair share

Below are some statistics regarding our current White House inhabitants mis-speak regarding fair share of taxes related to income. President O has consistently tried to incite a populous uprising against those who have elevated themselves and their economic worth. In any society there are those who have reached a place of economic status far above the most needy, regardless of idealogical belief systems of the government and the people. Our country is no different in that respect. Where the United States of America is different is in the upward mobility of economic status for the lower rungs of the economic ladder.

incomes reported by tax returns at the high end of the income spectrum fell from 2008 to 2009, as did their share of the nation's income and income taxes paid. In 2009, the top 1 percent of tax returns paid 36.7 percent of all federal individual income taxes and earned 16.9 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI), compared to 2008 when those figures were 38.0 percent and 20.0 percent, respectively. Both of those figures-share of income and share of taxes paid-were their lowest since 2003 when the top 1 percent earned 16.7 percent of adjusted gross income and paid 34.3 percent of federal individual income taxes
The top-earning 5 percent of taxpayers (AGI equal to or greater than $154,643), however, still paid far more than the bottom 95 percent. The top 5 percent earned 31.7 percent of the nation's adjusted gross income, but paid approximately 58.7 percent of federal individual income taxes.

[Note: This very top income group actually has a lower average effective income tax rate than the rest of the top 1 percent of returns because these extremely high-income returns are more likely to have income from capital gains and dividends, which are typically taxed at lower rates. It's worth pointing out that in the case of capital gains and dividends, income derived from these sources has already been taxed once by the corporate income tax, which is not included here, meaning the average effective tax rate numbers can be somewhat misleading.]

If it were included (as is often the case with other organizations), the tax share of the top income groups would be higher. The refundable portion is legally classified as a spending program by the Office of Management and Budget and therefore is not included by the IRS in these figures

AGI is a fairly narrow income concept, and does not include income items like government transfers (except for the portion of Social Security benefits that is taxed), the value of employer-provided health insurance, underreported or unreported income (most notably that of sole proprietors), income derived from municipal bond interest, net imputed rental income, worker's compensation benefits and others.
