SPIELBERGS LINCOLN, movie or commentary (part one)

I recently went to the Spielberg movie about the last few days of Lincoln’s life.  It turned out, at least for me, to be a story about one man’s fight to remove the practice of slavery from the relatively new republic of the United States of America.
In today’s world it’s difficult to know the difference between fact and fiction when watching that type of presentation because of the propagandic state of our society.  We seem to be pummeled by point of view rather than the facts and we tend to react like a herd of mental sponges soaking up whatever is spilled in front of us.  Real or fiction this movie did make my mind whir with a multitude of questions and observations, so many in fact that it is hard to settle down and approach my thoughts with any real sense of order.
(part one) POLITICAL PASSION
I was struck by the passion that Spielberg’s depiction attached to the congressional members involved in the conflict, and the effort put forward by the Executive as well, and the depth of purpose behind that effort.  The passion depicted was not that of party politics but of morality, a passion of the right thing to do versus a status quo.  In this portrayal I saw distinct differences between imagination of what may have been at that critical juncture and the faux political discourse our government bodies indulge themselves with today.

The struggle to achieve true emancipation has been an ongoing problem in our country.  That enactment shows the torment involved not only during the Civil War itself but that of our President to achieve a purpose worthy of that war.  Politicians in today’s government do not exhibit (as a whole) the resolve of purpose in addressing the needs of our country.  Rather it is the political stage play that will coerce the public into choosing their party over the other in the next election cycle.  Unlike the times in which the Lincoln era politicians seemed to be aided by strong public sentiments forcing them to act, our politicians are acting and reacting to sentiments of our society that are persuaded and provoked.  Their goal seems to be re-elected rather than the success of our great nation.

The United States of America, a republic formed under the banner of the Declaration of Independence, had existed in the presence of hypocrisy.  Economics had created the need for rationalizing among the slave owners and in order to fill their needs the slaves needed to be dehumanized.  Support for that rationale is and was impossible to find.  Slavery has been a part of humanity as long as man has been a territorial being, but in most instances the slaves were regarded to be human beings.

Our country has always been filled with beliefs flowing from fear and fiction but in the end our collective conscience brings us to differentiating between right and wrong and a confrontation of fact.  Lincoln was the figure put in place to help power that confrontation.  The struggle of conscience for a society holds a definite similarity with our own individual conflicts of right, wrong, good or bad.  If there is something we want we will rationalize enough good to counteract any wrong involved grabbing our goal.  Conscience will eventually be impacted by our choices and to lose that part of our being, as a person or as a society, is a loss humanity cannot survive.  The Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution were not just about right and wrong they were needed for the survival of our conscience, the victory of fact over rationalization.
(Part two) NATIONAL RATIONALIZTION AND PERSUASION
I look at some of the similarities and divergence of our moral pendulum today versus that time (the Lincoln era) in our history.  Perhaps a different conundrum, different rationalization, but still about right and wrong and the rationalizations required to deny the existence of humanity.  That instance would be regarding the fetus as no more than, as one proponent of abortion stated, road kill.  The abortion question allows for rationalizations on a major scale and the enormity of it will certainly cause a fracture of conscience within our society.  Part of our society has decided to enforce and strengthen the argument in favor of all forms of abortion with the rationalization of women’s rights, the dehumanization of the unborn, the inability to afford, and a mother’s health (there is an unending list of why’s).

The supporters of abortion use those rationalizations as speaking points accusing opponents as being against women in general and specifically against a woman’s right to control and care for her own body.  The two aspects, a woman’s rights and the rights of the unborn, are never really viewed as equal points of morality by those in favor of abortion.  Disregarding the presence of human DNA at conception as the beginning of a human life makes it acceptable to take away the life of the unborn child.  Rationalization and denial of fact makes it easier to hide the conflict of conscience involved in the act of abortion.  Rationalization circumvents logic when one tries to use the argument that women have the right to choose.  The choice is no less than condoning the right to murder any other human being in similar circumstance.

Logic dictates continuity and the logical argument might go as follows:
It is illegal to take the life of another human being except in the protection of another life.
A fetus is a human being with all the potential and rights of humanity because of the existence of human DNA.
Therefore it is illegal to take the life of a human fetus except in the case of saving the life of another human.
It seems so simple excepting when the insertion of partial truth mixed with rationalization components are put into the mix.
Human beings are able to think and to act on those thoughts
Fetuses are unable to think  (supposition?)
Therefore fetuses are not human
Therefore it is legal to terminate their existence
We are all too often forced back by arguments filled with innuendo, political correctness and name calling when we should be demanding the argument be conducted with fact and logic.  The removal of those two components allow for propagandizing and fabrications that support the factually unsupportable.  The facts may not be readily available and in the case of deciding at what point in time human life exists, that is certainly true.  Belief structure calls the shots in those cases and they are swayable in all directions in favor of what one wants to believe.

The one similarity that I am able to put together in the depiction of the time of Lincoln and today is that passion is weighed in favor of morality questions and has little to do with the facts.  Morality is something that can be directed in societies through the beliefs put forward through the education of the children.  Conscience can be dampened by indoctrination and propaganda.  To quote, "as a man thinketh, so he is."
To expand the thought, "as men thinketh so goes their society".  It is truly each man's responsibility not to accept the thoughts of others but to seek truth.

THANKSGIVING 2012

Thanksgiving has had a lot of different meanings for me.  I’m not sure of the exact timing of when I started to understand the meaning of sincere thanks and its’ relationship to the holiday.  I am sure today that understanding of things comes in two general ways, an “ah-ha” moment or a metamorphosis from child to adult.  Mine was apparently the latter.  It seems to me that thanksgiving requires the loss of narcissistic tendencies and the emergence of compassion and awareness of conditions.  This year, the year 2012, has seen a lot of things occur both personally, for family and friends, and for our country. Not everything has been gentle and sweet, but all are cause for Thanksgiving and this is my thanksgiving statement and prayer for this year.
I am thankful for: For a wife who loves me and shows it daily through kindness, caring, friendship and laughter; Family and friends that have held me in their minds and hearts regardless of my warts and differences of opinion; My (our) God who has faithfully covered me, through all the trials and tribulations, in ways not even known; The growing understanding that good is hiding in everything that happens in life if we are patient and prayerful;  The roof over my head, the clothes on my back, the food that feeds my body, the forces of the Holy Spirit that feeds my soul.  Thank you Lord.

a DONKEY'S TALE

This is a re do of a posting on facebook.  It made me think and this is my take on it. Arbee
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well.  The animal cried piteously for hours until he alerted the farmer to his plight.  The farmer studied the situation and decided that it would be pretty expensive to excavate the well and get the animal out of the deep hole it was captured in.  The farmer called together a committee of the neighboring cities smartest politicians.  Together they decided the donkey was just too old to spend money on, and  the best solution was to bury the problem and the donkey together so that no one else would know a problem ever existed.
Because the wise people of the committee had suggested this action, the farmer agreed to give up his mule, even though it had been faithful and productive.  He hired a bunch of laborers who were hanging around the feed store to help him bury the donkey and fill in the well.  As the laborers continued to shovel dirt, the donkey quit crying for help.  Eventually curiosity got the best of the farmer and he looked into the well and was amazed at what he saw.
There was the donkey as calm as he could be, shaking off the dirt that was being thrown in an effort to bury him.  The faster they tried to bury him the quicker he would shake the dirt off.   The farmer noticed the faster they shoveled the faster the donkey seemed to be getting closer to getting out of the fix he was in.  Pretty soon the donkey was able to step out of the well on his own.
Now there are a couple of different morals to this story with more than a few thoughts to ponder.  Here are a few to think about:
1.     Every once in a while we will find ourselves in a hole and usually we get there because we didn’t pay attention to where we were going.
2.     If we are in a bad situation it doesn’t hurt to let those who care know that we could use some help
3.     Everyone gets dirt piled on them in life and it can be used as something that will bury us or as something that will put us in a better position.
4.     If politicians decide how to solve a problem, the odds are they never realize the hidden effects of that decision.  Sometimes they get lucky sometimes they don’t.
5.     Don’t give up on yourself.
6.    Don’t trust the government to solve your problems

Vice Presidential Debate featuring 'THE JOKER"

Wow!  This would have been just as funny as Mr. Biden seemed to find everything during the debate if the topics had not been so serious. Throughout the debate I felt as though I were watching some political form of a Batman movie starring a real white haired “Joker”.  This was a fitting follow-up to the President's lackluster performance in the first debate,  with Biden taking up the slack and filling it with truckloads of manic behavior.  With approximately 60 million people watching the debates, I wondered how many viewers were spread across the rest of the globe.  The two debates, taken as a referendum on the state of our Executive branch of government, must have the rest of the world scratching their heads in dismay or licking their chops with the hope of our demise.  This seemed to be another example of the administration putting political gamesmanship in front of their abdicated responsibility to the American people and our proud heritage of leadership in the world.  Sad and dangerous!

Charlie Reese's Last Column

CHARLIE REESE ' S FINAL COLUMN A GREAT READ!!!!!

545 vs. 300,000,000 People
-By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.
You and I don' t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don ' t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator ' s responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House now? He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can ' t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.
Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!
What you do with this article now that you have read it... is up to you.

This might be funny if it weren't so true. Be sure to read all the way to the end:

Tax his land, tax his bed,
Tax the table, at which he ' s fed.

Tax his tractor, Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes are the rule.

Tax his work, tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.

Tax his ties, tax his shirt,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.

Tax his cigars, tax his beers,
If he cries tax his tears.

Tax his car, tax his gas,
Find other ways to tax his ass.

Tax all he has then let him know
That you won't be done 'til he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers; then tax him some more,
Tax him till he's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he ' s laid...

Put these words upon his tomb,
' Taxes drove me to my doom... '

When he's gone, do not relax,
Its time to apply the inheritance tax.

THE KING HAS NO CLOTHES

This week, we once again were privileged to see our news media and the liberal blog sites attack Mitt Romney for speaking the truth as he perceives it to be.  Instead of looking to the veracity of his point of view, that faction decided to protect the image of President Obama’s administration by deflection and covering their eyes and ears.
The American public needs a non-biased source of opinion and fact.  Our society is failing through attrition. We are losing those who respect our history and are being outnumbered by those who are receiving a jaundiced education regarding who we are as a nation.  We are falling prey to a very patient and pervasive enemy that has planned to defeat us without firing a shot but with the subtle use of propaganda.
We no longer have a public information system that ferrets out the facts. We have opted to choose and to allow our minds to be fed information tainted and colored by ideology and ignorance.
While we watch someone like Mitt Romney avoid the tactics of progressive reportage, a lot is hidden from view.  Mitt Romney’s business acumen is not politics as usual.  Mr. Romney has had to rely on cold hard facts in order to make business decisions. It is that fact based practice that is so lacking in the political landscape today.
Our country is at one of the most critical junctures of direction since the Civil War; at least the most critical in my lifetime.  We, the people, are preparing to vote and we need to make our decisions with our eyes, ears and minds open to the facts.  When opposition to the current administration speaks, we should be listening rather than trying to shout down that voice.
The last seventy years in our country will be reviewed in history quite differently than what the populace has been led to believe.  Our children are being taught a skewed view of their country.  They are being dumbed down and I for one am not sure if it is by intent or a lack of caring.  Regardless of the motive, the resulting lack of knowledge about our country will reap an anger against, rather than pride in our country.  Without pride and respect for who we are as a nation, the United States will be just another Roman Empire.
This election season it would behoove us not only to listen to what these candidates say but to understand them and the foundations upon which they stand.  We need to have an honest look at what they believe about our country, our current situations and where they want our country to be in the coming century. We need to listen (devoid of ideology and demagoguery) and view that as if our lives depended upon our decisions.  The truth is that our country depends on those decisions.

Remember the childhood story of the parade and how those attending covered their eyes and one small voice was heard to say, “Look the King is naked.”  We each need to be that one small voice.

HOPE, CHANGE and REALITY

2008 The majority of the American voters voted for HOPE and CHANGE.  We knew what we hoped for, we knew we needed to change the political landscape, and we were enamored with the flowing rhetoric that promised a new way of governing our country.  We hoped that the young man with the large engaging smile and the spring in his step would put an end to the divisiveness of racial angers and guilt. That he would put an end to the backroom and double-dealing political practices that put us in places and situations we would not have chosen on our own.  We could finally say that our country had emerged from the darkness into the new world where the color of a person’s skin no longer excluded him from the highest political office in the Free World.  We attached all of our aspirations for a better world to this one vessel of HOPE for a better America, a better society, the world and the America we let our individual and our group imaginations create.
The changes we perceived and hoped for were simple: an end to the racial tensions that have plagued us since the end of slavery; a government that worked together for the good of the United States regardless of ideology; a transparency that allowed all of us to see our government in action, naked before us warts and all. According to each individual ideology, we were to get everything we wanted.  I fully understand the psychology behind electing this symbol of Hope and Change, human nature makes us wish for more than we have, for something better.
We always hope our wishes will come true. The majority of our populace did not understand his definition of fundamental change nor did we understand the degree of demagoguery required for him to achieve his ends.  The expectations that the best outcome will take place were not tempered with the facts of who the man was, or is, and what belief structure would be in command of the oval office.
Our national news organization (those who are supposed to protect our society) forfeited truth and facts in favor of electing our country's first President of color.  That action forgave the years of formation that created the belief structures he would use to guide our country toward his definition of fundamental change.  With his election we would finally be able to set aside the years filled with angst, bitterness, anger and guilt and rid our country of racial tensions.
The news organizations made a big mistake.  Had they played their role as watch dogs for the good of the American people, we may still have elected him, but it would have been in the light of full disclosure. In the light of truth and full disclosure we would have the opportunity to be more honest today regarding his record as President.
The actions of the press have put themselves, and those who voted for him in 2008, in the untenable position of admitting they brought about the election of a demagogue to the highest political office in the Free World.  Much like a cat scratching and kicking sand they use distractions and misdirection to cover up their stench.

STRENGTH vs. APPEASEMENT (Libya, Egypt, Yemen ore examples)

Another anniversary took place this week.  While we in the United States were intent on paying our respects to the lives lost to Islamic extremists on September 11, 2001, Islamic Fundamentalists had another hate filled act in mind.  Knowing that 9/11 is a sensitive date to the Islamists our country failed to be vigilant and as a result American lives were again lost on American soil.  The current administration’s policy of “don’t offend the Muslim population of the world” exhibits the utmost naiveté and endangers our country and that of our allies.  There should be no doubt as to the tinder box the Middle East psychology is in reality, but this administration tries to act as if the Shariaist extremists are not our enemy.
The administration’s policies of appeasement neglect utilization of information gathering capabilities and all resources available to keep our nation and our citizens free of attack.  The dream of “hope”, that all would be “lion lying with the lamb”, has proven to be a nightmare.  The numerous times this administration has thrown our country to the wolves in favor of a one world order, will be shown in history to be a massive trigger toward “Armageddon”.  Those who are ashamed of the United States position, as a powerful sheriff, need to put fact in front of fantasy.  It has been through the actions of the United States that there is a “Free World”.  Abdication of that responsibility, through weakening of our military, will lead to worldwide anarchy.  The riots in Libya and Egypt, along with the ongoing farce of talks with Iran, translate in the Middle East as American weakness.
Nature has been a system of survival of the fittest, regardless of what is or is not pleasing.  When we appear weak, we incite violence against our people and our country.  We have shown our weakness to a myriad of governments and ideologues who would gladly join together to cause the downfall of the United States of America.  The fact that China, Russia and Iran have scheduled joint naval war games, that China and Russia have blocked every peaceful resolution to Iran’s nuclear program, is a sign not to be ignored.  The Mid-Eastern saying that your enemy is my enemy takes on a great meaning.  We do not dare ignore the threat to our country created by the “Appeasement Doctrine” of this administration.

NOT REALLY THE QUESTION.....REALLY? 9/3/2012

Listening to the week-end talk shows, it was all about the Democrats upcoming show in Charlotte.  The shows were full of commentary and talking points but not much else.  The three big guns of Sunday talk shows, Chris Wallace, Bob Shieffer, and George Stephanopoulos all asked some of the main questions.  The most telling question and answer came from one of the leading Democrat up comers, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, when asked, “are the American people better off today than four years ago?”, and his answer “no, but that is not the question before us this election”.  What a obtuse absence of reality.  That was a pure example of what we are going to get out of this convention.  Deflection of the real substance, of what should be topical for discussion, seems to be the standard response from the Democratic party and its ardent followers.  Unfortunately this is factual from their perspective perch above the American people.  When it comes to the re-election of Mr. Obama, anything goes and what goes first are the facts.

The blame game, regarding the Recession, will undoubtedly come into great play with the principle target of the Bush administration and the GOP playing the part of the target with the Tea Party as the backup.  The fact of the matter is obscured and masked by propaganda attack which hides the complete story of greed.  The greed is not that of President Bush and his administration but is spread throughout our society and was originally fostered by the not so benign intent of allowing home ownership to those who were economically unable to afford the purchases.  This comes to rest at the foot of the Democrats under President Clinton, who pressured the banking industry, by law, to relax traditional lending practices.  The fault is not that of Bush, Wall Street, the banking industry or even those allowed to acquire, normally unobtainable, loans.  The fault lies in a broken social structure that racially fights to support racial dysfunction.  The Democratic Party, in its zest to prove its worth, in the fight for racial equality, performed another exercise in “unintended consequence”.  This originated with that party, and was further exacerbated with actions to pressure lenders, and to deny the application of new regulatory measures proposed by the Bush administration in its beginning of the second term.  One of the most notable examples of pressure applied is that of the red line class action suit in Chicago against the Bank of America in which the accusers  prevailed.  This suit is one of, then community organizer, Barack Obama’s career highlights.  In this suit he argued that Bank of America was discriminating in lending based on area and the suit was a class action suit representing 196 litigants.  Bank of America was literally forced to remove their restrictions for these loans, and basically told they should not restrict similar lending in these areas.  Only 25 of the original 196 loans have survived.  A great source for factual information regarding the Housing bubble fiasco is, http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Great-Housing-Bubble---Who-is-Responsible?&id=1971248 .
I am sure that another of the positive topics will be the greatness of President Obama’s part in the salvation of our economy, and General Motors, through the wise use of the stimulus money so graciously provided him by the American citizenry.  Democrats are quick to make the case that had “The Recovery Act” (stimulus)” not occurred our country would have fallen off the wall and like Humptey Dumptey could not have been put back together again.  The factual basis for this argument does not exist and in truth is nothing more than supposition promoted by the “Smoke and Mirrors” that we were sold as “Hope and Change”.  There is an unending list of these funds being miss-used, wasted, and not used in a timely fashion.  So many in fact that it is mind boggling that the Democratic party would even use this as a talking point.  Three years after the swearing in of President Obama a large portion of these funds are still to be put to work in a economy in need of jobs, trade, and psychological uplift.  The President and his surrogates continue to tout the creation of 4 million new jobs in the private sector under his administration, that comes to an average of less than one hundred thousand per month when it requires over two hundred fifty thousand to keep up with population growth.  We can disregard the stimulus cost per job created, which is about two hundred thousand per job.  What a deal.  The majority of the stimulus funds went toward backing projects involving labor unions and other big contributors to the Obama ascension to the Presidency, and to those projects that are on the side of the “Green” movement.  Regarding General Motors there is very little mention of the dealerships, and the small businesses supporting them, that were forced to close.  No mention of the fact of how many of those 80 billion dollars were used to build GMs business in China (from whom we had to borrow the money in the first place), instead of using that money to build jobs in our own country.  In the so called saving of General Motors the act of placing union debt owed ahead of share holders was just one more example of rewarding the unions for their support of the President’s election and the pillaging of millions of shareholders relying on their original investment in General Motors shares for their retirement and college funds.  Disgusting.  The President and the Democratic Party have led us to believe that when Presidential nominee Mitt Romney stated that General Motors and Chrysler should not have been bailed out and suggested they go through the normal bankruptcy process, was wrong and somehow was in favor of the loss of these great companies.  The truth of the matter is that the process the President used was quite similar to bankruptcy except the American tax payer will apparently lose some 30 to 40 Billion dollars, the shareholders only received ten cents on the dollar, the unions received all of their benefits, and thousand of dealership and backup support employees are out of work.  Chrysler by the way is no longer an American owned iconic company, it is owned by Fiat of Italy.  This President and his administration, the two years with full power of the Senate and Congress, have failed in producing a viable economic policy.  Their party has no reason to ask the American public to support the re-election of this administration.  We are not better off than we were and to ask us to give him four more years in lieu of his resignation is just plain wrong.

PROGRESSIVE USE OF LINCOLNS ADDRESS AT GETTYSBURG

In response to a progressive huffer quoting the Gettysburg Address.
aR2: I find your post very encouraging to have you quote one of the most revered conservative Presidents in our history. It is mystifying how you can be against realistic and honest assessment of our national condition and the medicine needed to heal it. Four years ago we were mesmerized by rhetoric and the promises to fix our broken economy, to bring our people together and reunite us as one people under our flag, to create a consensus and an attitude change within our government that would fix Washington and our political weaknesses. Clearly that did not happen and we are confronted on that same side with confrontational and divisive escapism. Our country is in dire need of responsible leadership not pandering which we can ill afford. The President that you quote did not shy away from his responsibilities and he most certainly did not lead from behind. He fought gallantly to re-unite our country and to fully implement the intent of our founding fathers that all men are created equal. That means equal opportunity to achieve to their abilities not that of equal stature physically, or in any other way, through the power of government but rather through the power of the people.

Presidential Respect, the man or the office

A few days ago one of my friends on facebook said shame on me for calling our president and idiot when I shared a campaign poster. I will respond by saying I respect the office of President and consider it to be a position of sacred trust not only for our country but for the free World. I do not respect any man who blatantly does not uphold the oath of office when it comes to upholding the laws of our country and performs not for the good of our country but utilizes his position for his own gain and personal power. We are plagued all too frequently by politicians on both sides of the aisle who act in the interest of re-election in lieu of the best interests of our country. It is far too easy in our country to maintain a position of political power by gifts to special interests and by pandering group by group. Our country is now at a critical juncture and the hypocrisy of pandering is all too evident. We have been like small children on a diet of ice cream and cake just to keep us obedient and thankful, much to the detriment health, when we should have been given real nourishment. Four years ago we were mesmerized by rhetoric and the promises to fix our broken economy, to bring our people together and reunite us as one people under our flag, to create a consensus and an attitude change within our government that would fix Washington and our political weaknesses. We did get his attempt to fundamentally change our country, we did get his “change the way the rest of the World perceives us”, and we did get a guaranteed "we're out of here" that emboldened our enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention giving latitude and nose thumbing rights to Iran, Russia and China. We were promised transparency in our government that would clearly display what the American society would be getting as new policy and laws both in process and content. Instead of transparency and leadership from the executive branch we got the same thing we got from him as a senator, a vote of present while totally abdicating his responsibilities. The first two years of this Presidential cycle gave the office the full strength of both houses of our law and directional politic. Instead of utilizing this opportunity to constructively correct our economic ills, as promised, the total effort turned to the purchase of political IOU’s through the passing of the “affordable care act”, the use of our capital to fund ideological goals of the Progressive Democrats, and providing tools to provide the unions with increased funding and membership. This was not accomplished with the transparency promised during the election cycle, but instead was accomplished under the leadership of the Senate and the Congress. The methodology used to push the ACA through was far from transparent, far from uniting our country, and far from being responsible. Leadership is not allowing your surrogates complete control of your ship and it is most certainly not accomplished from the rear end or behind.

AR2: CBS Sunday Morning programming

I have been a loyal viewer of the Sunday morning with Charles for over thirty years. I doubt if I have missed more than two or three shows in all of that time. This year I have noticed an effort on the part of this show to push the political agenda of the liberal progressive side of our society through the commentary section of the show. Today was the last straw!!!

To have some ideologue use the force of this once great show as a megaphone is disgraceful to say the least. To promote the false, misleading and divisive blather regarding those with economic success is deceitful.

Why not use your power to address the real causes of inequality. It is not the wealthy that use economic inequality as a means of creating a form of slavery. Our political factions use this as a scapegoat, hiding the fact that the creation of classes through class warfare is a means of vote acquisition. The creation of a societal state of mind and belief, that those of lower income are incapable of overcoming circumstance and that the government is their only source of survival, is the real enslavement method.

The segment of your show today which used an African American to underline the term slavery, at a time when our country needs to reunite and work together, was a reprehensible insult to your audience. I would suggest that instead of denigrating success as a form of enslavement you might give some editorial time to the message of reality.

Reality would show the effect of telling multitudes of people how they have been mistreated and how their miserableness is the result of someone else's actions. Our country was not founded on the principles of acceptance of failure but on the ability of our people to overcome adversity. We were not a country of weakness when we assisted Europe in overcoming Nazi Germany.

Instead of propagating weakness in our society and tearing down our strengths we should be promoting the opportunities available. We should be encouraging the factual and historical endeavors that have made our place in World history something to be admired.

CBS has allowed their microphones to be kidnapped by a national tone that uses the weaponry of political correctness and the guilt for actions of ancestors to discolor the possibilities of today.

CHECK YOUR FACTS

This week I found myself at the end of a stick that I have accused the progressive liberal side of our society of using as a weapon.  That stick is the one of honesty supplanting the diligence of seeking the truth.  In my haste to inform my fellow citizens, those of my age group, of the dangers of “Obamacare” I forwarded a e-mail blasting the raising of Medicare premiums.  This e-mail has been fact checked and found lacking in the truth factor.  Retractions have been sent to those to whom I had forwarded this item.  The end does not justify the means, as that is just too slippery a slope to test ones ethical sense on.

It is fact that I want to do everything humanly possible to change the Obama infatuated mind, I want to do it by the use of factual truths rather than by innuendo and the use of half-truths.  We citizens of the American society have been bombarded, educated, propagandized, and led to believe things that may or may not have basis in fact.  Due to restraints and limitations on time and priorities we have allowed our eyes and ears to accept those things that fit our specific set of filters.  We need to quit the ideologue mentality that commits us to no more than a herd of sheep in our societal obligations.  Most of us have the tools, a problem solving nature, an innate ability to look at cause and effect, and a gut feeling that warns of imminent dangers.  I personally believe that we are in a battle which is global in nature, one which involves the mental, physical, and yes the spiritual makeup of mankind.

The insidious malignancy we know as political correctness has acted as a Trojan horse eroding societies from within, using our sense of compassion to eliminate the revulsion normally associated with being lied to. It is no longer wrong, by convention to lie to someone about how we really think or feel, if those thoughts do not fit into the proper mold.  This has built insensitivity to the act and the effects of lying.  The art of manipulation uses political correctness, half-truths, innuendo, and repetition to achieve a desired goal.  The winning of that power struggle, between our political and ideological factions, no longer benefits our country as a whole.  We no longer possess that ethical core that protected and safeguarded our societal direction.  We are no longer protected in our decision processes by truth. We are instead manipulated and herded about by perception and factual distortions.  We are different than animals and we are different than machines.  Garbage in and garbage out is true for we human beings as much as it is for a computer.  We are also marching to our own demise if we follow blindly, much as the lemming herds heading over a cliff.  Humans, individually and societally, have advantages over herd mentality and the simplistic methods of the computer.  We do have reason, and an inner sense of right and wrong.  We need to start applying those capabilities, we need to take the time and we need to expend the energy to search out truth.

I apologize for being too lazy, in too big of a hurry to check out those e-mails that fit into my mental framework or my goal set.  I will henceforth confirm.  I will also voice my opinions and beliefs which are arrived at by observation, facts and logic.  I hope you will do the same.  Question, confirm, and be part of the solution.

This election is pitting to radically opposed ideologies and methods of governing the direction of our country.  Regardless of where you come down on the issues you need to re-evaluate your positions.  This is not just about you.  This is about where our next generations of progeny will find themselves, what kind of world they will be living in, will they have opportunity, creativity, freedom and truth in their lives.

We need to be able to admit when we have been duped.  We need to admit that sometimes what we want has dictated what we believe.  I have watched a fact emerge.  Hope and change has eliminated the hope factor, transparency has turned to the cloak of deceit, unity has turned into divisiveness, world acceptance has turned into derision.  The only truth has been that of fundamental change of the once great United States of America.  “Hope and Change” has in fact been “Smoke and Mirrors”

SCOTUS OPINION ON OBOMACARE

HOWARD FINEMAN: the court essentially said that Congress could not require people to buy something in the private economy, but they could fine them if they didn't.

AR2:I think that SCOTUS put the citizenry in front of a firing squad.  This in effect will give congress the right to enforce any public mandate through taxation.  To think that it will stop at this one fiasco is delusional.  It will be up to the people to force congress to quell their newly found power by passing and defining a law prohibiting punitive taxation.  Our Federal Republic originated as a result of unfair taxation, and we certainly do not want to allow our own government this power.  We all need to fully understand the ramifications of this ruling.  It is not about the healthcare mandate it is about the creation of a new power of state to control and rule the people of our nation.  The United States of America has long stood for individual rights and freedoms, the right to keep the heavy thumb of government suppression away from our individual lives and livelihood.  We have been duped and misled into thinking that the government is our friend and our protector, not factual.  We have been propagandized into thinking that those of us who respect the rights and the abilities of the individual to achieve, are heartless.  Let me remind you all..we eat the animals we feed.  Gifts of kindness from any government are not from heart but from striving for control and power.                                   Summer77Fox is already throwing Roberts under the bus!! Republicans are so foolish they will continue to go down this path of hate and Obstruction at their own demise! If they continue not only will they lose but the American People may get that Single Payer System that we should have had to being with, This the most power Country in the world yet our Health System is number 34th in the World!
AR2: Summer, What exactly do you think this bill will supply you, or others, that could not have been accomplished in many smaller bites?  What makes you think that a single payer system will work better than an open system of true competition across state lines, in conjunction with those components that most of us, GOP and Tea Party, are in agreement.  There are those items that will show up if given a chance for honest discourse.  That is not what existed during the push for an increase in governmental power masquerading as a gift too our people.
minkad: The importance of landmark rulings has played important roles in our lives. Cases like Brown v Board of Education and Roe v Wade are two recent cases that have impacted how our society operates. Most people on the right are blaming Justice Roberts because they are not aware that it was the constitutionality of the mandate that was being considered. There have been many questionable rulings in the US Supreme Court in recent history so it is incumbent on the chief justice to get it right no matter what the political downfall. The Court is an important tool to assure the rights of individuals and the government to operate, and as such, rightly came down on the side of the 'Affordable Care Act'. This day will live in the history books forever. To read more on other historical facts on the US Supreme Court go to: http://www.thegreaterbooks.com/product_info.php/cPath/21_26/products_id/32
AR2: It will go down in history for sure.  Hopefully it will be noted as the final straw, of governmental power grabbing politicians, that wakes up the populace.  We need to be aware that the power and control granted to politicians are a cost, regardless of the sugar they offer as a bribe.  If nothing is done to counteract this new ability, allowing the use of taxation as a means of forcing compliance, we will rue this day.  The court I think was incorrect in redefining the language of this law in order to squeeze it into the realm of constitutionality, but it did.  It is now incumbent on the power of the voter and the houses of Congress to rein in the newly granted power of taxation as a tool to force the rest of us into compliance  with whatever keeps them in power.  If you really think this is so great, use your imagination to look down the road towards the future.  Is what you see what you would like to be living today……remember, what is given to you today, tomorrow someone will have to pay

'Republicans and Romney, their presumptive nominee, will make overturning the law their crusade for the campaign, and they will have the polls on their side.'---
They will surely make it their crusade but disagree that they will have polls on their side. Most people who must rely upon private health insurance, do not want to be turned away for pre existing. This reform also offers young folks the opportunity to stay on their parents' plan til their 26, preventative care included in plans that previously left it out (even plans w/very high deductibles) and small businesses a bigger pool thru exchanges. The only ones that would not see the benefit of the reform are those that are prey to right wing propaganda.
AR2:  Lizzy,  get off the talking points and listen to the facts..You are to busy with the yadayada to listen to what Romney is saying.  Reach behind your back grab ahold of your neck and pull firmly, this will put you in a better position to see the facts.  It is real easy to paint Mr. Romney with the liberal spray paint of taking away the good things in this bill.  In fact he has stated that there are many good things that should be used and put into effect in order to reform our healthcare system.  He, like many of us, don't agree with the method used to create this monstrosity, nor do we agree with the hidden costs that will accrue after 2014.  This bill was never about healthcare it is about power over a population and Roberts just handed over a new weapon to the politicians.  We need to elect representatives for our nations good not for our ideology.  Ideology formed from indoctrination does not create good governance; government with the power to impose its will upon its people is what we fought against during the formation of our country.  Do you think it is wise to allow political power seekers the ability to force us all into compliance under the threat of taxation?  I apologize for suggesting that you need to pull your head out of a place of willing ignorance, sorry
I am overjoyed for Americans today! As Joe Biden would say "This is a big f---ing deal!"
We need to vote for people in November who will not rob us of this much needed law. The fact that Romney, upon whose Mass. plan this law was based, now says that the rest of us don't deserve the same security speaks volumes about the character, or lack thereof, of the man. He and his fellow Republicans have vowed to destroy the ACA, and to leave most Americans out in the cold...again.
We have already lost our savings, our investments and our homes because prior administrations have favored the wealthy and turned their backs on the middle class. It should not have taken this long for all Americans to see that "trickle down" doesn't happen. If we don't throw these people out in November, we will lose the ACA, and suffer yet another great personal loss: The ability to obtain affordable health care.
I agree: Learn about the ACA and fight to keep it. Fight with your voices, you keyboards and your ballots. If we are a healthy country we have a real shot at making this the America we want and need it to be.
AR2:Good grief!! Do you read what you write?  Security?  What security do you get when this ACA, that you are so enthralled with, says that you are too old for a bypass operation, or you don't really need to see out of both eyes.  Your comment regarding what you and many of the rest of us have lost is totally ignorant.  This recent fiasco is the result of a give for vote program initiated by the dems to put financially unqualified people into home ownership.  This caused a unreliable demand for housing increasing false value which exploded.  One of the major reasons our health care costs has skyrocketed is because of government involvement and price fixing which stopped free market cost adjustments to occur.  One of the great sidebars of this action is the creation of a whole new level of criminals, they have to cheat the system in order to provide care.  Most of us agree that change and correction to our healthcare system is needed, and most of us agree on what those should be.  The disagreement comes regarding the method, the means, and the payoffs and hidden costs of this ACA that you are so proud of.  This is a big effen deal and we are all the ones being effed.

Health Care Law: All Hail The Failure Of Conventional Wisdom

Health Care Law: All Hail The Failure Of Conventional Wisdom

Astute. governance through punitive taxation. We fought against this kind of thing during the birth of our system. We need to fight against this intrusionistic by vote. We need to put people in office that will outlaw the use of taxation and fines as a means of control.

Iraq and Iran: A Partnership Made in America

The mess we left in Iraq was truly equal to the desertion of the Afghanis after the defeat of the Russians. Once again our right foot is tripped up by our left. We continue to misunderstand that part of the world thinking they should have common sense, they may, but different than ours. They respect the most powerful and will chew up and spit out the weak. We leave a vacuum and a void because we allow the left to pull us away from any real victory and cure. Iran, the taliban and aq are all ready and willing to slurp up our leavings. Disgusting. Ms Huffer is correct in her assesment that we have created a mess in Iraq. We are in the process of following it up with Afghanistan. The mess has not been created by our involvement but by sucumbing to political preasure applied by those who do not in fact care about humanity. Congrats lefties.

The Despicable Act of Paying for Prisoners!

Are tiy squirrel food.....? You got the hoodlum part right but sadly lacking in the intelligence department. White is not your enemy fool, you are in your bigoted colored glasses. Get some facts regarding the benefits of drug addiction, how many people die from it every year, how many other crimes are committed, the cost to our society in terms of dollors and humanity. Spend some energy in actually helping all those non-white folks stay out of the enslavement created not by race but by permisive, instant gratification, and lack of hope for a future. Please take off the word intelligent until you get some common sense and quit being a hoodlum.

Obama Pot-Smoking Details Revealed In David Maraniss Book

There's a lot of interesting things. One of the most interesting is how our society could elect him into the highest office in the free world, allow him to toatally diss our country, and still have any chance for re-election. In less than four years he has screwed up more things than any President since the previous tittle holder, Jimmy "the peanut" Carter. A pox on your ignorance.

When did our laws change so that non-citizens have the right to vote?

When did our laws change so that felons have the right to vote?

When did our laws change so that dead folks have the right to vote?

When did our laws change so that under aged have the right to vote?

We are a nation of laws, and we have no country if we do not uphold the above. It's not a question of party its a question of what constitutes citizenship.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE RE OBAMA

As a student of Psychology and Sociology over the years I found this perspective presented by a practicing psychologist quite informative.  Regardless of ideology or party affiliation, this is food for thought.  This was written prior to Mr. Obamas election to the highest office in the free world, and I see no improvement in the situation since that time.
The author of this was Dr. Sam Vaknin.
Dr. Sam Vaknin is an Israeli psychologist. Interesting view
on our president. Dr. Vaknin has written extensively about narcissism.

Dr. Vaknin States "I must confess I was impressed by Obama
from the first time I saw him. At first I was excited to see a black
candidate. He looked youthful, spoke well, appeared to be confident --
a wholesome presidential package. I was put off soon, not just because
of his shallowness but also because there was an air of haughtiness in
his demeanor that was unsettling. His posture and his body language
were louder than his empty words. Obama's speeches are unlike any
political speech we have heard in American history. Never has a
politician in this land had such quasi "religious" impact on so many
people.

The fact that Obama is a total incognito with zero
accomplishment, makes this inexplicable infatuation alarming. Obama is
not an ordinary man. He is not a genius. In fact he is quite ignorant
on most important subjects."

Dr. Sam Vaknin, the author of the Malignant Self Love
believes "Barack Obama appears to be a narcissist." Vaknin is a world
authority on narcissism. He understands narcissism and describes the
inner mind of a narcissist like no other person. When he talks about
narcissism everyone listens. Vaknin says that Obama's language,
posture and demeanor, and the testimonies of his closest, dearest
friends suggest that the man is either a narcissist or he may have
narcissistic personality disorder (NPD).

Narcissists project a grandiose but false image of
themselves. Jim Jones, the charismatic leader of People's Temple, the
man who led over 900 of his followers to cheerfully commit mass
suicide and even murder their own children was also a narcissist.
David Koresh, Charles Manson, Joseph Koni, Shoko Asahara, Stalin,
Saddam, Mao, Kim Jong Ill and Adolph Hitler are a few examples of
narcissists of our time. All these men had a tremendous influence over
their fanciers. They created a personality cult around themselves and
with their blazing speeches elevated their admirers, filled their
hearts with enthusiasm and instilled in their minds a new zest for
life. They gave them hope! They promised them the moon, but alas,
invariably they brought them to their doom.

When you are a victim of a cult of personality, you don't
know it until it is too late. One determining factor in the
development of NPD is childhood abuse "Obama's early life was
decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising
dislocations" says Vaknin. "Mixed-race marriages were even less common
then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant two
years old. Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a
car accident. Then his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to
Indonesia , a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be
raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live
with his maternal (white) grandparents. He saw his mother only
intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from
his life in 1979. "She died of cancer in 1995."

One must never underestimate the manipulative genius of
pathological narcissists. They project such an imposing personality
that it overwhelms those around them. Charmed by the charisma of the
narcissist, people become like clay in his hands. They cheerfully do
his bidding and delight to be at his service. The narcissist shapes
the world around himself and reduces others in his own inverted image.
He creates a cult of personality. His admirers become his
co-dependents. Narcissists have no interest in things that do not help
them to reach their personal objective. They are focused on one thing
alone and that is power. All other issues are meaningless to them and
they do not want to waste their precious time on trivialities.
Anything that does not help them is beneath them and does not deserve
their attention.

If an issue raised in the Senate does not help Obama in one
way or another, he has no interest in it. The "present" vote is a safe
vote. No one can criticize him if things go wrong. Those issues are
unworthy by their very nature because they are not about him.

Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard
Law Review led to a contract and advance to write a book about race
relations. The University of Chicago Law School provided him a lot
longer than expected, and at the end it evolved into, guess what? His
own autobiography! Instead of writing a scholarly paper focusing on
race relations, for which he had been paid, Obama could not resist
writing about his most sublime self. He entitled the book Dreams from
My Father.

Not surprisingly, Adolph Hitler also wrote his own
autobiography when he was still a nobody. So did Stalin. For a
narcissist no subject is as important as his own self. Why would he
waste his precious time writing about insignificant things when he
can write about such an august being as himself?

Narcissists are often callous and even ruthless. As the
norm, they lack conscience. This is evident from Obama's lack of
interest in his own brother who lives on only one dollar per month. A
man who lives in luxury, who takes a private jet to vacation in
Hawaii, and who raised nearly half a billion dollars for his campaign
(something unprecedented in history) has no interest in the plight of
his own brother. Why? Because, his brother cannot be used for his
ascent to power. A narcissist cares for no one but himself.

This election was like no other in the history of America .
The issues were insignificant compared to what is at stake. What can
be more dangerous than having a man bereft of conscience, a serial
liar, and one who cannot distinguish his fantasies from reality as the
leader of the free world?

I hate to sound alarmist, but one is a fool if one is not
alarmed. Many politicians are narcissists. They pose no threat to
others. They are simply self-serving and selfish. Obama evidences
symptoms of pathological narcissism, which is different from the
run-of-the-mill narcissism of a Richard Nixon or a Bill Clinton for
example. To him reality and fantasy are intertwined.

This is a mental health issue, not just a character flaw.
Pathological narcissists are dangerous because they look
normal and even intelligent. It is this disguise that makes them
treacherous. Today the Democrats have placed all their hopes in Obama.
But this man could put an end to their party. The great majority of
blacks voted for Obama. Only a fool does not know that their support
for him is racially driven. This is racism, pure and simple.

The downside of this is that if Obama turns out to be the
disaster I predict, he will cause widespread resentment among the
whites. The blacks are unlikely to give up their support of their man.
Cultic mentality is pernicious and unrelenting. They will dig their
heads deeper in the sand and accuse Obama's detractors of racism. This
will cause a backlash among the whites. The white supremacists will
take advantage of the discontent and they will receive widespread
support. I predict that in less than four years, racial tensions will
increase to levels never seen since the turbulent 1960's.

Obama will set the clock back decades. America is the
bastion of freedom. The peace of the world depends on the strength of
America , and its weakness translates into the triumph of terrorism
and victory of rogue nations. It is no wonder that Ahmadinejad, Hugo
Chavez, the Castrists, the Hezbollah, the Hamas, the lawyers of the
Guantanamo terrorists, and virtually all sworn enemies of America are
so thrilled by the prospect of their man in the White House.

America is on the verge of destruction. There is no insanity
greater than electing a pathological narcissist as president
