That's because we have created a segment of our society that is selfish and does not care about the whole of humanity. When the view is pointed in the mis-direction of things like climate change instead of people change. We have no problem teaching a responsibilty toward our planet but totaly reject the idea of teaching a morality that creates samaratin attitude toward our neighbor.
